Monthly slide decks have arrived. September is available now, and the full year will be added soon, with more dates and entries being added regularly.

The decks are built for real classroom life based on feedback from teachers like you.

If you have five minutes, you have enough time to share a slide, spark a conversation, and give students a moment of representation and history they might not get anywhere else. Teacher guidance, discussion prompts, and connections to DEE lessons are built in.

Each deck includes age-appropriate content for K-5 and 6-12 students. New months are added throughout the year. If you'd like to be notified when new decks are available, sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media.

How to use these decks

There is no single right way to use the calendar. A few ideas:

• Pull up a slide during morning meeting or a morning circle

• Share a date in school-wide announcements

• Include a notable birthday or awareness day in daily or weekly communications

• Drop a slide into a lesson where you are already discussing this day in history, or use it to start that conversation if you aren't yet

• Some dates have multiple entries. Choose what works best for your students and your classroom context

• You can also use the content on other days

These decks are a starting point, not a curriculum. We don't expect them to replace anything you are already doing, and we don't expect you to use every entry. They work well when mixed in with other calendars or “This Day in History” activities you are already using. The goal is simply to make it easier to bring disability history and culture into the moments you already have.

The dates are a guide, not a rule. If a date has passed or hasn't arrived yet, the content is still worth sharing. Any time is a good time to bring disability history and culture into your classroom.
